Гомес решает перебраться в США, в Чикаго: только там у него могли открыться возможности для самосовершенствования и карьеры. «Когда я переехал в Чикаго, я пошел на вечерний джем, в котором участвовали 10 других гитаристов, делавших точно то же, что и я. Это заставило меня осознать: ладно, я выбрался из Торонто, это неплохо. Однако если оставаться здесь, в Чикаго, нужно набраться всем этим штукам и переучить их. Ты должен заставить свою индивидуальность блеснуть наконец, парень», - рассказывал он в интервью журналу «Блюз Ревю». После выпуска в 1998 дебютного альбома "Blues in Technicolor" побеждает в неофициальном конкурсе чикагских коллег «Best Unsignet Blues Band» (конкурс учреждён клубом Бадди Гая). Параллельно с карьерой музыканта Гомес, ныне живущий в Нэшвиле, штат Теннеси продолжал получать высшее образование и летом 2005 года, опираясь на собственный опыт, защитил диплом в области гуманитарных наук по теме «Тhe Racial Evolution of Blues Music». Canadian-born guitarist, singer, and songwriter Anthony Gomes lives by that credo of truth as an artist, constantly challenging himself to expand his explorations of heart and sound. His latest release, Rebel Blue, is a career ’best of’ retrospective that celebrates the acclaimed artist’s vibrant masterwork of blues-based rock, soul and R&B.

Born in Toronto, Canada, to a Portuguese father and a French-Canadian mother, Gomes began playing guitar in his early teens. "On my 14th birthday, my Dad surprised me with the coolest present - a beat up old acoustic guitar. Since then, the guitar has never left my side.” Inspired to write original music, Anthony’s high school band won a local radio station contest, earning $10,000 in prize money and a chance to open for Bon Jovi. Gomes decided it wasn't his path to follow. "I quit the band before all of that could happen. My heart wasn't in it because I wanted to play the blues and roots music. I packed up my bags moved to Chicago to learn blues from the masters.”

Gomes relocated to the Windy City in the late '90s with hopes of establishing himself as a musician. After a brief stint as a sideman for Magic Slim and the Teardrops, Gomes put together his own group and won the first annual Buddy Guy’s Legends “Best Unsigned Blues Band” competition in 1998. After honing his craft on the Windy City club circuit, he moved to Nashville, TN, where he found a home for himself amid the city's renowned music scene. Gomes explains, "I moved to Chicago to be a better musician and then headed down to Nashville to learn more about songwriting."

Gomes made his recording debut in 1998 on the Urban Electric label with “Blues in Technicolor“. The disc introduced him as a guitar-slinger loaded with impressive firepower. Instead of following up with more of the same, Gomes boldly stepped back for an intimate acoustic offering in 2000 with the critically acclaimed "Sweet Stringin' Soul."

In 2002 he released “Unity” and proceeded to win the 2003 BluesWax Artist of the Year award. This accolade elevated Gomes to the top of the blues field, and consequently he was able to draw larger crowds to his live performances, which increased in frequency and scope. Gomes’ endless touring kept him atop the blues field, as he continued to be nominated for BluesWax Artist of the Year awards several years in a row.

“Music Is the Medicine“, released in 2006, peaked at number four on the Billboard Top Blues Albums chart. Produced by Jim Gaines (Stevie Ray Vaughan, Santana,), the disc featured collaborations with hit songwriters, including Mark Selby, Bruce McCabe, Tom Hambridge and Jim Peterik. 2008’s “LIVE”, is Gomes’ greatest commercial success to date, reaching number one on the Billboard Top Blues Albums chart.

Rebel Blue, a 17-song collection, highlights Anthony Gomes’ musical accomplishments and features signature songs like "Darkest Before The Dawn," "Blues In Technicolor" and "Bluebird." Releasing a greatest hits package usually marks the end of a chapter in an artist's career and the beginning of a new one. Often, it is a time for introspection and evaluation. “I’ve been able to play blues around the world for thousands of people and I owe so much to those who were kind enough to work with me and lend a helping hand,” says Gomes, “There’s a lot of love, from a lot of people, that went into making the songs, albums and tours. I am humbled by it all and I look forward to keep on making meaningful music.”
