(KCTV) - Troubled teenager Sean Conner is on trial in Kansas for attempting to strangle his younger sister, Britney. However, in his defense plea, he mentioned the controversial videogame Bioshock (Xbox 360) as having influenced his criminal act. “I get really into my games and when Brit’ came over to me to watch TV I forgot I was in a game and accidentally strangled her,” Sean Conner told KCTV yesterday. The game Bioshock uses a science-fiction setting to create scenarios that require you to actually kill little girls for power ups. The game has already come under fire for its violence and this case doesn’t do much towards helping the game’s cause. KCTV approached the parents outside of their Wichita home and questioned them about whether Sean had played the videogame and if they think it influenced his behavior. “Yes I do believe Bioshock influenced his behavior,” she told us. “And it wasn’t my fault because he’s old enough to buy these games.” In fact, Sean was old enough according to the standards set by the ESRB which has prompted many politicians leading the fight against games to question the effectiveness of a 17+ age group for players buying M-rated games. Attorney Jack Thompson has released a harsh statement saying “Justice will be served to the bastards that caused this crime.” |
Правда, как оказалось позже, все история -
подделка. Корреспондент GameTab Джо Бурлинг позвонил на станцию KCTV в Канзасе, где ему подтвердили, что такая новость никогда не покидала их стен.

There is a story currently popping up all over the Internet (sourcing a non-existent news story, supposedly run by Kansas news station, KCTV) about a Kansas teenager who supposedly strangled his little sister thanks to influences from BioShock. Aside from the fact that it's the most ridiculous story ever conceived, it has been confirmed by our very own Joe Burling (who made a quick and easy call to the KCTV news desk) to be completely false. Already circulating our Webs, the tale is getting somewhat out of hand and really isn't very funny anyway, due to the fact that it's so badly done. “I get really into my games and when Brit’ came over to me to watch TV I forgot I was in a game and accidentally strangled her,” is what fictional Sean Connor is claimed to have told KCTV. Now, I'm all for dark humor, but if you're going to do it, make it good dark humor. This seems like a petty attempt to start an urban legend, but it's just not done well enough at all. Plus it's about a month too late. |
